New online program offers certificate in insurance
Individuals who wish to work in the insurance industry may want to consider pursuing higher education. Job opportunities will be best for college graduates who have sales ability, interpersonal skills and training in financial services, reports the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
Adults who are currently in the workforce, or who would like change careers, may benefit from an online education. Distance learning programs, such as the one offered by William Penn University, are ideal for people who want to learn the skills that are necessary to enter the insurance industry.
Through William Penn's College for Working Adults, aspiring insurance agents can prepare for licensure and other designations. Coursework will include the study of property and liability insurance, personal insurance, commercial insurance, claim handling and underwriting. Upon completion of the program, students will earn a certificate in insurance. Credit hours can also be used to fulfill part of a bachelors degree requirement.
This and similar programs are open to anyone who holds at least 40 college credits.
The BLS reports that employment of insurance carriers is expected to grow by 3 percent, creating 67,600 new jobs over the next eight years. These professionals earned between $26,120 and $133,930 during the 2008-2009 fiscal year.
