New online program helps professionals become certified financial planners

Individuals who wish to work in business, may want to consider a career in financial planning. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that jobs for personal finance advisors are expected to grow faster than the average for all other occupations. Many job opportunities are expected from the baby boomer generation as they will need assistance planning for retirement.

Adults who aspire to enter the industry and mid-career professionals may want to consider online education to earn a degree. Online certified financial planner (CFP) certification programs, such as the one offered by California State University in Los Angeles, are designed to keep up with the rising demand for financial job-related opportunities.

The program will consist of self-paced, CFP Board Exam training in tax management and strategy, risk management and insurance, retirement and employee benefits, estate planning and investment planning. Students who enroll in all five classes at once will receive a tuition discount of about $106 per class.

This and similar online education programs offer each student an expert mentor, who is available for virtual office hours to assist with any issues or questions that learners may have.

Online courses are one of four components leading to certification as a CFP.

According to the BLS, personal financial advisors earned between $56,390 and $119,290 during the 2008-2009 fiscal year.
