National Distance Learning Week celebrations continue
The University of Arkansas has joined schools across the country which offer online education opportunities in celebrating National Distance Learning Week from November 9-13.
Online courses and programs at UArk are offered through the school's Global Campus, which continues to grow. For example, sections that support degree programs in elementary education and business at the Rogers facility doubled from fall 2008 to fall 2009, according to the university's website.
The Global Campus also offers online degree programs and more than 125 online or print-based independent study courses.
Sharon L. Gaber, provost of the university, says that by constantly adding new programs to its online education offerings, UArk is "putting students first, especially those who have barriers to completing a degree such as geographical distance or personal obligations that prevent on-campus participation."
Adult learners interested in switching careers may consider enrolling in one of the many online degree programs offered by institutions around the country, especially since the Census Bureau estimates individuals with college degrees earn about twice as much as those who only completed high school.
