Lamar University's online degree program receives a commendation

Authorities with Lamar University have announced that the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has officially commended the school for the quality of its online masters degree in principal education program.

The evaluators from the TEA found the university to be in compliance with each of the five areas of review, including commitment and collaboration, admission criteria, curriculum, program delivery and on-going support as well as program evaluation.

During the review process, which began last year, the TEA team reviewed student records, guidelines, documents and handbooks. They also surveyed members of the program's external advisory committee, faculty, enrolled students and principals of campuses where degree candidates were assigned.

"This outcome is very positive for us," said Hollis Lowry-Moore, dean of the university's college of education and human development. "It affirms that we are in compliance with state standards for masters degrees in educational administration. It also provides us with some good recommendations for areas we can improve."

Specifically, Lowry-Moore noted that the university needs to clarify language on their internships and field supervisor positions as well as expand their advisory board.
