Junior college launches online agreement with university
Recent research from the Sloan Consortium indicates that enrollment in online colleges has increased by 17 percent over the past year. A number of these enrollments were a result of community college collaborations with larger universities.
This week, Gloucester County College (GCC) and the University of Maryland's University College (UMUC) announced a partnership that will allow GCC students to complete an online bachelor's degree at UMUC, NJ.com reports.
As a result of the partnership, GCC students are also eligible to apply for UMUC's Dual Enrollment Scholarship, which awards $500 per semester for two consecutive semesters to students who are taking a minimum of three credits at UMUC and three credits at GCC.
"The University of Maryland University College is a leader in distance education and strives to meet the needs of working professionals by providing the flexibility to transition from one educational environment to another," Susan C. Aldridge, president of UMUC, told the news source. "This agreement makes transferring for a bachelor's degree uncomplicated and rewarding for community college students."
