Human resources professionals may benefit from online education

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment of professionals who work in human resources is expected to increase by 22 percent over the next eight years. As a result, many campus-based and online universities are integrating coursework that is related to this field into their academic programs.

Schools such as Ozarks Technical Community College (OTC) are offering online certificates that are beneficial to adults who are employed in this industry. The college recently announced the launch of an online certificate in supervision and leadership.

OTC's program includes courses that feature effective communication skills, ethics, team-building and performance management.

The school was recently received approval to provide the program from the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI), which is a partner of the Society for Human Resource Management.

Vanessa Germeroth, assistant director of eLearning Outreach at OTC, said that the program offers an affordable, accessible way to satisfy recertification requirements and to gain knowledge in several supervision and leadership topics.

HR professionals who are seeking HRCI accreditation are required to earn 60 professional development credits from approved providers every three years. They can earn as many as 72 recertification credits through the supervision and leadership program.
