Earlier this month, five current and former students from Herzing University, an accredited provider of online degree programs, participated in the third annual Herzing on The Hill event, where they had the opportunity to discuss the merits of career education with members of Congress in Washington.

Specifically, university president Renee Herzing and the group sought to urge today's leaders to create policies that contribute to a student's ability to choose career education that is right for them.

"I went to Washington, DC in support of career colleges," said Joan Russell, who graduated from Herzing in April 2009 with a bachelor of science in legal studies.

"Career colleges have played a major role in my life as well as my daughter's life," she added. "As a result of the education I received at Herzing, I am now working in my field with an excellent salary."

While in Washington, Russell and other members of the group had an opportunity to meet with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and legislative aides from both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
