Grand Canyon University donates $20,000 to Haiti relief fund

In light of the devastating earthquake that took place in Haiti on January 12, 2010, Grand Canyon University (GCU), an accredited provider of online bachelors and masters degree programs, has announced that is has donated more than $20,000 to a special relief fund aimed at providing goods and services to survivors of the natural disaster.

Officials with the university have also announced that the school will be matching all funds donated by GCU students, faculty, alumni and friends up to $25,000. All donations will be used to provide people of Haiti with basic necessities, such as medical supplies, food and clean drinking water.

"Grand Canyon University represents a community of service, compassion and generosity that is called upon to demonstrate our faith through our actions," said the school's CEO Brian Mueller. "Our community has responded from the heart, as they always do, and donated to those who are in need."

A majority of the donations will go directly to the St. Damien Hospital in Haiti, which is a 120-bed pediatric hospital that serves patients from around the country.
