Last Friday, a symposium took place in Michigan during which experts and students involved in online education projects networked and discussed the future of this important instruction option.

Conference speakers included Matt Roush, WWJ-Newsradio 950's technology editor for the Great Lakes IT Report; Kevin Krason, president and founder of Biznet.com; Karen Kelley from Cisco Systems and Bruce Umpstead, director of the Office of Educational Technology and Data Coordination at Michigan Department of Education, according to HometownLife.com, a local news source in Michigan.

During one of three informational sessions at the conference, educators met with a panel of students from area community colleges to hear their recommendations regarding online education as ever more students turn to online courses to speed up or supplement their education, according to HometownLife.com, a local news source in Michigan.

In addition to that, one part of the conference was devoted to trends in K-12 education, given that incorporating online education at the high school level is an increasingly important element of preparing students to enroll in college online degree programs.

Online education is a cost-effective and flexible option for those who would like to earn a college degree but find it difficult to attend classes on campus because of distance or family or work commitments.

According to the Census Bureau, individuals with higher earn about twice as much as those who only completed high school.
