College opens new campus, online education to benefit

Rasmussen College, an accredited online education provider, has recently opened a new facility at its Wausau, Wisconsin campus, located on the northwest side of the city.

The spring semester officially started for over 100 students on Monday, split fairly evenly between online and on-campus participants.

"Specifically here in Wausau our students are enrolled online and residentially," said campus director Sue Williams. "So a student may take one course here during the day or evening and have one course online."

Students enrolled at the new campus can choose from majors in business, early education, criminal justice as well as technology and design. Rasmussen offers associates, bachelors and masters degree programs to prospective students and has several flexible start dates throughout each semester.

The online education sector grew 13 percent last year and had been growing at about 20 percent in previous years. Nearly one in four students take at least some college courses online, up from one in 10 in 2002, Reuters reports.
