College extends application deadline for new online degree program
Authorities at Loyola College have announced that they have extended the deadline to apply to the school's doctor of nursing practice (DNP) degree program until February 25. The offering, which was recently approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, is the first online degree program of its kind in the state of Louisiana.
The DNP program is designed for candidates who hold a masters degree as a nurse practitioner and who are looking to focus their career on women's health, pediatric care or gerontology. It will emphasize patient care and healthcare systems innovation.
"The application of informatics, organizational analysis and implementation science is critical to healthcare effectiveness," said Ann Cary, director of the School of Nursing.
"We intend to incorporate the use of integrated behavioral health approaches in primary care practices as a method to address effective healthcare delivery," she added.
So far, eight students have been admitted through the early admissions process, although the school expects to enroll 25 students by the end of the application process.
Online education can be a flexible option for those who are looking to earn their degree but find it difficult to attend conventional on-campus classes.
