Berklee College of Music has recently announced that its online education division will be launching a new course for the upcoming spring semester.

The online class, titled virtual instruments and effects, is designed to teach students how to create music using Pro Tools 8, a digital audio workstation platform that is used by recording and editing professionals in the music, film and television industries.

"The first six weeks of the course are devoted to covering one instrument per week, where we'll go through what every single control on each instrument does and use them to create our own sounds and music," said course author and Pro Tools expert David Franz.

During the final six weeks of the class, students will concentrate a variety of air instrument effects incorporated into the audio platform, including delay & modulation, harmonic distortion and compression dynamics.

The online course offering will feature several prominent rock bands and musicians, such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Peter Gabriel and Thelonious Monk.

Berklee's online school will launch the Pro Tools instructional class on April 5, 2010.
