Award-winning immunology site aims to improve working knowledge of clinicians and scientists
The medical profession is one in which workers never stop learning, and this may be especially true of doctors. However, immunologist Clive Gray has developed an award-winning online resource called Immunopaedia, which helps physicians and other healthcare professionals acquire a working knowledge of immunology.
The website received the Science Prize for Online Resources in Education, which is given to the best online materials in science education.
"Improving science education is an important goal for all of us at Science," said Bruce Alberts, editor-in-chief of Science Magazine. "We hope to help those innovators who have developed outstanding online resources reach a wider audience. Each winning website will be featured in an article in Science that is aimed at guiding science educators from around the world to valuable free online resources."
Since the resource was launched in 2006, it has gone from 300 users a month to 3,000, most of whom are clinicians from across the globe. The website covers important topics such as transplantation immunology, autoimmune disease, cancer and immunodeficiency. Through these educational materials, Gray hopes to improve knowledge of these subject areas for science and medical professionals.
