Due to a competitive job market, more adults are returning to school in order to boost their credentials. Many online schools are offering certification programs for working professionals who are looking to rejuvenate their career.

Online universities have a wide selection of programs for teachers who wish to improve their skills. For example, the School of Media Arts recently announced the launch of an online teaching certificate program in media education, DailyWildcat.com reports.

"A big part of how people get information these days is moving pictures and sounds, whether through movies or TV or the Internet," Michael Mulcahy, a coordinator of the language of media course, told the news source.

The program is intended to benefit working high school teachers who would like to learn how particular media work in a classroom setting. It will be offered completely online to cater to the needs of educators who may not be able to attend regular classes due to a busy schedule.

Elementary school teachers and college professors, can benefit from advanced certification in media. As a field of study, media covers a sweeping range of topics that can be applied to many different curricula.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that there were 4.5 million jobs for teachers during the 2008 academic year.
