University to receive a gift in support of business programs
The Evelyn Y. Davis Foundation has announced a grant of $100,000 to Brown University to develop its business education program.
The move is part of a broader effort to encourage students to pursue degrees in business - which can be obtained in traditional campus settings or via online education - as employment in the field is expected to grow dynamically in the coming years.
Davis is a well-known advocate for corporate governance, and has published a corporate newsletter titled Highlights and Lowlights since 1965. She is also a shareholder of approximately 80 corporations in diverse industries, and lectured on shareholder issues at various universities and colleges.
A degree in business can lead to a variety of careers, most of which are expected to grow dynamically and offer attractive salary packages. For example, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that demand for financial analysts will grow by 34 percent during the decade of 2006-16 while financial managers can expect a 13 percent increase in demand for their skills with salaries exceeding $145,600.
Meanwhile, median annual earnings of for general managers were $85,230 in May 2006.
Busy adults who would like to switch careers may consider enrolling in an online degree program in business or management as many institutions across the country offer that flexible option.
