Online program offers business professionals convenience, competitive edge
California State University (CSU) at Monterey Bay has kicked off the third year of its Executive MBA program, its wholly electronic opportunity to earn an online MBAdegree.
The program is intended to allow professionals with work experience gain an education without putting their current careers on hold. Students, including CFOs and CEOs, can tackle a two-year MBA program on their own terms in order to achieve career goal, such as teaching at the university level.
Students wishing to move up in their companies, fine-tune their skills or search for another job undergo a course of study that addresses organization and leadership, accounting and finances, micro- and macroeconomics, innovation and technology management, marketing and entrepreneurship, global business as well as business strategy.
Advisors guide students through the application process and help ensure they stay focused and engaged in their studies once they enroll, according to the program's website. Students also render support from one another by forming electronic study groups of seven to 13 and holding online discussions on coursework.
Murray Millson, head of the online MBA program, told the Santa Cruz Sentinel that the material is tailored to "individuals with at least seven years of work experience," and requires that applicants have held a leadership position for at least three years.
