Graduate business certification could increase job prospects

Business professionals are often looking for new ways to gain knowledge regarding entrepreneurial skills. Adults who wish to start a business, conduct research or promote an invention could benefit from enrolling in a business degree or certificate program.

For example, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, a leader in entrepreneurial-related business information, recently announced a partnership with Kaplan University to offer online graduate certificates in new ventures and growth ventures.

Coursework is inspired by Kauffman's FastTrac NewVenture program, which teaches students how to launch a business, how to create a business plan, where to obtain financing and how to draw up operational plans. The growth ventures course material will come from Kauffman’s FastTrac GrowthVenture program, which shows learners the skills that are necessary to create a marketing plan and identify leadership strategies.

The foundation also announced a partnership with the National Postdoctoral Association to recognize exceptional people who are working on commercial research with the Kauffman Foundation Outstanding Postdoctoral Entrepreneur and Emerging Postdoctoral Entrepreneur awards.

The awards "foster entrepreneurship in the scientific community by recognizing scholars who are taking steps to bring their innovations to market," said Sandra Miller, Kauffman Foundation director of advancing innovation.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that professionals with advanced degrees or certification may have better potential job opportunities and lower rates of unemployment.
