Business publication unveils list of fastest-growing companies

Inc. magazine has released its third annual Inc. 5000, a ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies, with the top ten including several advertising and marketing as well as insurance companies.

At number one in the ranking is Miami, Florida-based Northern Capital Insurance, whose growth is estimated at 19,812.2 percent, followed by National Retirement Partners at 13,416.4 percent.

But the list also includes retail players such as Diaper.com, at number 35, with a growth rate of 3,473.8 percent.

"Inc. 5000 is the best place to find out about young companies that are achieving success through a wide variety of unprecedented business models, as well as older private companies that are still expanding at an impressive rate," says Inc. 5000 project manager Jim Melloan.

Although the study is geared mainly towards investors, those heading to college may also take note as it may help them decide what major to select and what kind of skills may be most marketable in the years to come.

An MBA program - including one that can be completed online - is one option for individuals who would like to prepare themselves for a rewarding business career.

According to PayScale.com, average salaries for holders of MBA degrees ranged from $73,510 to $171,583 in 2008, depending on the field, position and years of experience.
