Bachelor's degrees in business can provide useful career skills

Americans who are pursuing a bachelor's degree in business may be wondering what careers are available for college graduates with this type of education. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment of professionals in advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations and sales management - all of which have business knowledge - is expected to increase by 13 percent over the next eight years.

Schools such as Northwestern College in Illinois offer an online bachelor's degree in business administration. The school recently received accreditation from the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs to offer this degree, which may be useful for working adults who wish to enter a career in sales, marketing or advertising. The school also announced the launch of several new online programs, including associate's degrees in health information technology and criminal justice.

Coursework for the business degree will cover the application of economic principles in order to make sound business decisions, the basics of contractual law, management theories and methods for financing a business, as well as the principles of marketing, selling and public relations within different types of organizations.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that professionals who have marketing and sales management skills could earn more than $80,220 per year.
