Fasten your seatbelts. Getting your degree online may be quicker than you think.

Education is a journey, not a destination. But an online education can get you from point A to point Degree via a quick commute to your laptop.

That applies whether you launch a career in the fast-growing fields of health care, teaching, business management, computer technology, homeland security and more. How fast? Four is no longer the magic number, as online university students average 2-3 years to complete a degree.

Most online students take only one course at a time, thus freeing up time for work, play and family.

For instance, if you are interested in Criminal Justice, you can get a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Kaplan University with two courses of study. Once you complete a non-thesis track (covering practical applications), you can move on to a research and theory-based thesis track that prepares you for criminal justice instruction.

Also expediting your degree completion is how many credits you can take at once. While traditional colleges cap out at 18 credits annually, online universities allow up to 27 per year.
