Computer crime and security specialists are in great demand from both law enforcement agencies and private industry. This discipline focuses on the prevention and detection of crimes such as identity theft, embezzlement, illegal network hacking, virus and other "malware" attacks, child pornography and cyber stalking.
Our online Computer Crime and Security programs provide training in the procedures and tools for recovering and preserving digital evidence such as e-mail and other text and graphics files. Students learn the legal requirements and forensic best practices for investigating, collecting, analyzing and presenting evidence for the prosecution of computer crimes. (cont.)
Typical coursework covers such topics such as preparing forensically sterile examination media; methods for acquiring and preserving original media to minimize loss or corruption of data; overcoming attempts to destroy digital evidence; and relevant operating system, cryptology and firewall strategies.
