The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education regulates higher education in the state. The governing body oversees eight public four-year colleges and universities, six regional universities, 16 public two-year colleges, 20 community colleges, and other private and proprietary schools. The state’s public institutions are governed by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. Kentucky hosts 34 accredited institutions and notable universities, including the two major research institutions, the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. Programs offered range from two-year degrees to doctoral degrees.
