Military Specific

Comprised of the four major branches—Army, Air Force, Navy, & Marine Corps—as well as the National Guard, the military offers a wide range of very stable careers with built-in opportunities for promotion. Choosing a military career may seem limiting to outsiders, but in fact you may become involved anywhere in a diverse range of occupations, from software programming to hospital management to aircraft repair to operation of a nuclear reactor.

The American Armed Forces, by its very design, offers a great deal of opportunity for advancement. While the larger part of the military is made up of enlisted personnel—roughly 85 percent—the remainder is made up of officers, the managers and executives of the Armed Forces. Officers function primarily as supervisors who lead and manage activities and performance within a given military arena. The main work of an enlistee varies from carrying out combat operations to construction to health care to administration. Taken together, they make up the wide range of secure, rewarding career opportunities that is the United States Armed Forces.
